William (Bill) H. Chambers, PhD

Dr. William H. Chambers is a nationally recognized leader in biomedical research and strategic program development, with over four decades of experience spanning academia, non-profit research funding, and basic and translational research. He has held senior leadership roles at the American Cancer Society, including Senior Vice President for Extramural Research, where he was responsible for strategic planning, development of innovative funding mechanisms and development of research partnerships. In this role, he also had oversight of a research portfolio of 700+ grants in effect totaling $450+ million. His academic career includes a distinguished record of research in immunology related to cancer, transplantation and infectious diseases. Dr. Chambers has mentored numerous students, fellows and junior faculty members. His leadership role at the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute included membership on senior leadership committees, oversight of day-to-day operations of a large research facility, and development of research infrastructure. His career has also encompassed service on numerous national and international grant review panels, editorial boards, and advisory committees. A frequent speaker and consultant, Dr. Chambers continues to contribute to science policy, research innovation, and public health through board memberships and advisory roles.
